Calling all Snohomish School District high school students! Are you interested in serving as a representative on the Student Advisory Council for the School Board? Applications for the 2025-2026 school year are open for current Student Advisory Council members and students who will be sophomores next year.

To be eligible:

  • You must be an existing/current (2024-2025) Student Advisory Council member, or
  • You must be a 10th grade student at AIM High School, Glacier Peak High School or Snohomish High School during the 2025-2026 school year.

This position is for a multi-school year commitment. Student representatives are expected to attend meetings which include meeting with the School Board, Advisory Council, and campus meetings to connect with fellow students.

Background

We want to work to ensure that student voice is heard at all levels, including the Board of Directors in our district. As a public school district, our organization exists to educate and serve all students in our community and therefore, students’ needs, interests, ideas and opinions are important in our schools.

This Student Advisory Council will regularly meet to discuss School Board topics and important topics at each of the schools. This position is for a multi-school year commitment. Student Representatives are expected to attend meetings which include: School Board, Advisory Council, and campus meetings to connect with fellow students.

Application process

  • All interested students will complete an online application.
  • A district administrative team will screen applications and select representatives to interview for the Student Advisory Council for the 2025-2026 school year.
  • The first Student Advisory Council meeting of the 2025-2026 school year will be in September 2025.
  • The student advisory members’ term for the 2025-2026 school year will begin in September.

Criteria for serving as a Student Advisory Council representative

  • Student advisory representatives must be enrolled in the Snohomish School District and remain so throughout the length of their term.
  • Student advisory representatives should be able to effectively communicate and represent the interests of all Snohomish School District students, which includes those who may differ from their own.
  • Student advisory representatives must commit to participating in meetings to hear and share student voice to include: periodic meetings with the School Board, meetings with Student Advisory Council, meetings with principal and student groups on campus (some exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances).

Student Advisory Council expectations

  • Be punctual.
  • Contribute to discussions by providing student insight and perspectives.
  • Regularly report back to the student body regarding the work of the district and School Board.
  • Help with the recruitment of a new Student Advisory Council representatives at the end of the school year.
